Bard Breakfast 2010
Activists, Archives and Conversations with Jane: Research for the Battle for Gotham
Urban critic, journalist, and Landmarks Preservation Commissioner Roberta Brandes Gratz will speak at the seventh annual Bard Birthday Breakfast Benefit, to be held on December 1, 2010. Ms. Gratz's new book, The Battle for Gotham: New York in the Shadow of Jane Jacobs and Robert Moses, is a personal account of New York's transformation and an analysis of how other cities might learn from its rebirth.
In her talk at the Bard Breakfast, Ms. Gratz will discuss the research process behind her new book and the primary sources she investigated to build her story. She'll also draw on her own relationship with Jane Jacobs and discuss the interviews she conducted with New York's foremost preservationists and urban thinkers.
