The Archive Project celebrates the efforts of the Action Group for Better Architecture (AGBANY) for its effort to prevent the demolition of old Pennsylvania Station. After plans to destroy the terminal were announced, AGBANY utilized the press and took to the streets to advocate for the doomed station. On August 2, 1962, AGBANY led an energized march of hundreds. The group’s efforts to save Penn Station did not succeed; however the campaign brought preservation to the forefront of the public mind and permanently transformed the way New York City residents participated in preservation.
