Michael Ryan is presently Vice President and Librarian of the New-York Historical Society, where he has been since 2014. At the N-YHS he is an active partner with NYPAP in acquiring and preserving the papers of important individuals and organizations who have helped advance the cause of historic preservation in the greater NY area. His larger interest is in documenting the history of the built environment of NY. For most of his career he has taught in and led rare book and manuscript libraries in major universities, including Chicago, Stanford, Penn, and Columbia. He holds a PhD in early modern European history and is on the Council of the Grolier Club of New York.
