2021 Preservation Award Honoree: Yukie Ohta

Yukie Ohta

We are delighted to announce that Yukie Ohta, founder of the SoHo Memory Project, will be honored with the Archive Project’s 2021 Preservation Award. The award will be presented at our 19th annual Bard Birthday Breakfast Benefit on December 16th. The award recognizes significant efforts to save, document, and celebrate preservation history.

Yukie’s work in founding, growing, and maintaining the SoHo Memory Project is an inspiration. The Memory Project’s focus on archiving and disseminating the story of SoHo, with a heavy emphasis on preservation efforts in the neighborhood over decades, is something we hope can be replicated in neighborhoods around New York City.

Yukie has created a platform that stewards preservation history and archives on a neighborhood scale in alignment with the Archive Project’s aims. She has also taken great care to ensure that the Project’s archives will make their way to a permanent collecting institution. We have chosen to lift up Yukie’s efforts because they are eminently worth of emulation.

We hope you will join us in recognizing Yukie Ohta and the SoHo Memory Project at the Bard Breakfast on December 16th!
