Board Member Spotlight

Chris Jeannopoulos, the Archive Project’s newest board member, probably never imagined he would be a champion for archives and the history of the preservation movement. Yet he has been moving in this direction for nearly 20 years. I had the great privilege to meet Chris when he was at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum and was about to become the CFO at World Monuments Fund. In Chris’s interview, it was evident that beyond his skills as a CPA and his ability to manage the financial aspects of the job, he had a great passion for history and New York City. Having grown up in Queens and currently living in a historic neighborhood in Brooklyn, he was very aware of the importance of the streetscape. Now, as CEO of the Woodlawn Cemetery & Conservancy, Chris is more than ever a great promoter of the benefits of preservation, the joy of discovering lesser known histories of the City, and the great need to save the documentation that helps us tell a rich preservation story.

In his role at Woodlawn, Chris has offered public remarks on a number of occasions, noting the rich tapestry of culture, architecture, and history represented on Woodlawn’s grounds. He brings to the Archive Project the keen mind of an accountant, the passion of a life-long New Yorker, and his desire to showcase preservation as a positive force in the City and highlight the way archives make certain we do not forget some important chapters of the movement.
